Anticipating releases 2018

Hey hey!

Get hyped because it’s time for my most anticipated book of the year. I’m aware that we’re already well into 2018 but I was determined to get this post out and there are still so many releases I’m excited about. I’ll be listing my 18 most anticipated releases of 2018 in order of their release date. I’ve included some books that have already been released, but I haven’t read them yet and I’m still very excited. I’m always conflicted about new releases because I probably don’t need to add more books to be TBR and there are so many books I need to read. So, starting from January…

(Since I’m a late pumpkin, some of the books have already been released. Please slow down.)

1. Markswoman by Rati Mehrotra

35008759RELEASE DATE: 23rd January 2018

I’m always here for sisterhoods and female warriors so of your this book piqued my interest. I don’t know too much about the novel besides what I’ve read from the synopsis, but it sounds cool. These books can be a hit or miss for me execution-wise but I’m still super hyped to dive into its fantastical world and experience its magic!

Kyra is the youngest Markswoman in the Order of Kali, one of a handful of sisterhoods of highly trained elite warriors. Armed with blades whose metal is imbued with magic and guided by a strict code of conduct, the Orders are sworn to keep the peace and protect the people of Asiana. Kyra has pledged to do so—yet she secretly harbors a fierce desire to avenge her murdered family…

2. Reign the Earth by A.C. Gaughen

25566671RELEASE DATE: 30th January 2018

Stories that have a magic-heavy element to them are always fascinating to me because it can be explored in so many different ways. I’ve heard that this is a pretty dark and heavy read with some rough issues explored (like physical and emotional abuse, rape and torture) so just a heads up about that.

Shalia is a proud daughter of the desert, but after years of devastating war with the adjoining kingdom, her people are desperate for peace. Willing to trade her freedom to ensure the safety of her family, Shalia becomes Queen of the Bonelands…

3. Cadaver & Queen by Alisa Kwitney

35140600RELEASE DATE: 27th February 2018

I love it when we get female characters interested in STEM fields BUT EVEN BETTER, I’ve heard this is inspired by Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein!!! The protagonist is an outsider in this world being a female medical student, but that alone already has me rooting for her. Fingers crossed that it’s amazing!

When Lizzie Lavenza enrolled at Ingold as its first female medical student, she knew she wouldn’t have an easy time. From class demands to being an outsider among her male cohorts, she’ll have to go above and beyond to prove herself. So when she stumbles across what appears to be a faulty Bio-mechanical–one of the mechanized cadavers created to service the school–she jumps at the chance to fix it and get ahead in the program…

4. To Kill a Kingdom by Alexandra Christo

34499221RELEASE DATE: 6th March 2018

This novel includes some fascinating creatures, specifically SIRENS! Also, it’s a twisty retelling of The Little Mermaid and dark retellings ARE the most interesting. Fun times!

Princess Lira is siren royalty and the most lethal of them all. With the hearts of seventeen princes in her collection, she is revered across the sea. Until a twist of fate forces her to kill one of her own. To punish her daughter, the Sea Queen transforms Lira into the one thing they loathe most—a human. Robbed of her song, Lira has until the winter solstice to deliver Prince Elian’s heart to the Sea Queen or remain a human forever…

5. Children of Blood and Bone by Tomi Adeyemi

34728667RELEASE DATE: 6th March 2018

This novel has received so much positive hype and feedback already. I’ve actually not heard a single negative thing about it. Apparently, the worldbuilding in this fantasy is supposed to be out of this world, so I’m definitely looking forwards to that. Also, MAGIC is a large focus on this book and I can’t wait to get my hands on this one!

Zélie Adebola remembers when the soil of Orïsha hummed with magic. Burners ignited flames, Tiders beckoned waves, and Zelie’s Reaper mother summoned forth souls.

But everything changed the night magic disappeared. Under the orders of a ruthless king, maji were targeted and killed, leaving Zélie without a mother and her people without hope…

6. Obsidio by Amie Kaufman, Jay Kristoff

24909347RELEASE DATE: 13th March 2018

I only recently got into this series and it has been fantastic so far. It is the epitome of space epicness and I’m so glad that I’m ready for the finale now. Series conclusions are always scary to read and I’m trying to push me expectations down a bit because disappointment is not an option. I’m desperately hoping for space-squad goals in this book.

Kady, Ezra, Hanna, and Nik narrowly escaped with their lives from the attacks on Heimdall station and now find themselves crammed with 2,000 refugees on the container ship, Mao. With the jump station destroyed and their resources scarce, the only option is to return to Kerenza—but who knows what they’ll find seven months after the invasion?

7. Not If I Save You First by Ally Carter

35238072RELEASE DATE: 27th March 2018

Ally Carter books always have such fun and interesting premises so OF COURSE I’ve got to talk about her newest release. I love how vague the synopsis (I always hate it when they basically reveal the first half of the novel). From what I can gather, the novel is set in the Alaskan wilderness and I honestly don’t know what to expect from that. Also, this is a standalone so I’m intrigued as to how it will play out.

Maddie thought she and Logan would be friends forever. But when your dad is a Secret Service agent and your best friend is the president’s son, sometimes life has other plans. Before she knows it, Maddie’s dad is dragging her to a cabin in the middle of the Alaskan wilderness…

8. Dread Nation by Justina Ireland

30223025RELEASE DATE: 3rd April 2018

This seems like an “alternate history” novel set during the American Civil War… BUT WITH ZOMBIES!! This will definitely an interesting and unique historical fiction/fantasy/horror. It seems like it’s going to be an action-packed novel and I believe the protagonist is a black zombie hunter. Really looking forward to her adventures.

Jane McKeene was born two days before the dead began to walk the battlefields of Gettysburg and Chancellorsville—derailing the War Between the States and changing America forever. In this new nation, safety for all depends on the work of a few, and laws like the Native and Negro Reeducation Act require certain children attend combat schools to learn to put down the dead. But there are also opportunities—and Jane is studying to become an Attendant, trained in both weaponry and etiquette to protect the well-to-do. It’s a chance for a better life for Negro girls like Jane…

9. Ash Princess by Laura Sebastian

32505753RELEASE DATE: 24th April 2018

You say revenge story and I’m instantly hooked. Also, I love characters who feign weakness whilst secretly plotting to destroy their foes. And the vibe I got from the synopsis so hopefully I’m not too far off. I’ve heard some content warnings for this novel, especially that the progression of the story is heavily dependent on violence, abuse and generally inhumane circumstances for the protagonist. I’m expecting it to be brutal but I’m hoping that it won’t be too much.

Theodosia was six when her country was invaded and her mother, the Queen of Flame and Fury, was murdered before her eyes. Ten years later, Theo has learned to survive under the relentless abuse of the Kaiser and his court as the ridiculed “Ash Princess.” Pretending to be empty-headed and naive when she’s not enduring brutal whippings, she pushes down all other thoughts but one: Keep the Kaiser happy and he will keep you safe…

10. The Bird and the Blade by Megan Bannen

32702487RELEASE DATE: 5th June 2018

So this is going to be the author’s debut. I instantly get excited when I hear authors releasing their first published work into the world. It seems like there’s going to be lots of politics, riddles and scheming and all that fun stuff. Also, this novel is set during the Mongol Empire which is a fresh setting to explore in YA. Can’t wait!

As a slave in the Kipchak Khanate, Jinghua has lost everything: her home, her family, her freedom … until she finds herself an unlikely conspirator in the escape of Prince Khalaf and his irascible father as they flee from their enemies across the vast Mongol Empire. On the run, with adversaries on all sides and an endless journey ahead, Jinghua hatches a scheme to use the Kipchaks’ exile to return home, a plan that becomes increasingly fraught as her feelings for Khalaf evolve into a hopeless love…

11. A Thousand Perfect Notes by C.G. Drews

36389267RELEASE DATE: 7th June 2018

A debut #LoveOzYA novel from the blogging queen herself: Cait from Paper Fury. I’m so proud of her even though I’ve had absolutely no part in the process of this novel getting published. I’ve seen snippets of her writing but I honestly don’t know what to expect from this novel. Since it’s a contemporary, there doesn’t seem to be any dragons featured… but I’m very much excited to get my hands on this one.

Beck hates his life. He hates his violent mother. He hates his home. Most of all, he hates the piano that his mother forces him to play hour after hour, day after day. He will never play as she did before illness ended her career and left her bitter and broken. But Beck is too scared to stand up to his mother, and tell her his true passion, which is composing his own music – because the least suggestion of rebellion on his part ends in violence…

12. Spinning Silver by Naomi Novik

36896898RELEASE DATE: 10th July 2018

Naomio Novik definitely impressed me in her novel, Uprooted with enchanting writing and riveting magic so I am so hyped for this novel. I’ve heard that this is going to be retelling of Rumpelstiltskin which already has me hooked. I’m ready to be dazzled and I need this book now!

Miryem is the daughter and granddaughter of moneylenders… but her father isn’t a very good one. Free to lend and reluctant to collect, he has loaned out most of his wife’s dowry and left the family on the edge of poverty–until Miryem steps in. Hardening her heart against her fellow villagers’ pleas, she sets out to collect what is owed–and finds herself more than up to the task. When her grandfather loans her a pouch of silver pennies, she brings it back full of gold…

13. Heart of Thorns by Bree Barton

35720690RELEASE DATE: 31st July 2018

I clearly favour novels with magic so here we are again. I don’t remember what initially captured my attention for this novel, but I’ve heard super feminist and bisexual prince floating around so I am excited to see how the story plays out.

In the ancient river kingdom, touch is a battlefield, bodies the instruments of war. Seventeen-year-old Mia Rose has pledged her life to hunting Gwyrach: women who can manipulate flesh, bones, breath, and blood…

14. These Rebel Waves by Sara Raasch

29422091RELEASE DATE: 7th August 2018

Pirates! Pirates! Pirates! That’s all I need to hear – I’m in.

Adeluna is a soldier. Five years ago, she helped the magic-rich island of Grace Loray overthrow its oppressor, Argrid, a country ruled by religion. But adjusting to postwar life has not been easy. 15. Seafire by Natalie C. Parker

37822534RELEASE DATE: 28th August 2018

An all-female ship crew hell-bent on taking down a warlord’s fleet. Sisterhood?? And vengeance?? Yes please.

She captains her ship, the Mors Navis, with a crew of girls and women just like her, whose lives have been turned upside down by Aric and his men. The crew has one misson: stay alive, and take down Aric’s armed and armored fleet…

 16. Little White Lies by Jennifer Lynn Barnes

36321744RELEASE DATE: 6th November 2018

Barnes definitely has a talent for writing mystery, so it’s not a surprise that I’m bursting with excitement about this soon-to-be released novel. It’s set in a world of debutante balls so I’m ready to sussing out this mystery and some good times.

Eighteen-year-old auto mechanic Sawyer Taft did not expect her estranged grandmother to show up at her apartment door and offer her a six-figure contract to participate in debutante season. And she definitely never imagined she would accept. But when she realizes that immersing herself in her grandmother’s “society” might mean discovering the answer to the biggest mystery of her life-her father’s identity-she signs on the dotted line and braces herself for a year of makeovers, big dresses, bigger egos, and a whole lot of bless your heart…

17. The Dark Days Deceit by Alison Goodman

26061583RELEASE DATE: 20th November 2018

The finale for the Lady Helen series is coming out in November and I just can’t wait until then. I love the regency England blend with the paranormal that makes this series so unique and I can’t wait to see the final adventures of Lady Helen. YAY demon-fighting!

Lady Helen has retreated to a country estate outside Bath to prepare for her wedding to the Duke of Selburn, yet she knows she has unfinished business to complete. She and the dangerously charismatic Lord Carlston have learned they are a dyad, bonded in blood, and only they are strong enough to defeat the Grand Deceiver, who threatens to throw mankind into chaos. But the heinous death-soaked Ligatus Helen has absorbed is tearing a rift in her mind. Its power, if unleashed, will annihilate both Helen and Carlston unless they can find a way to harness its ghastly force and defeat their enemy…

 18. Queen of Air and Darkness by Cassandra Clare

13541056RELEASE DATE: 4th December 2018

Speaking of demons, the conclusion of The Dark Artifices series is coming out at the VERY end of the year, but I need to read it NOW!! I have so many questions that need answering and everything in the Shadowhunter world is looking pretty grim at the moment. I know it’ll be epic and devastating (in the best way possible) so I’m definitely looking forwards to its release!

Innocent blood has been spilled on the steps of the Council Hall, the sacred stronghold of the Shadowhunters. In the wake of the tragic death of Livia Blackthorn, the Clave teeters on the brink of civil war. One fragment of the Blackthorn family flees to Los Angeles, seeking to discover the source of the blight that is destroying the race of warlocks…

And finally, we’re at the end. Those were my top 2018 releases that I’m super hyped to get my hands on as of now, but I’m sure there will be many more that I hear about throughout the year!
